Banking in Second Life gets competitive

Giulio Prisco sent an email to the Second Life EDucators list, and posted on uvvy.com about opening an account on Meta Bank. He also mentioned that on Friday, October 13, IntLibber Brautigan of The International Libertarian conducted an interview with Thor Columbia, President of Meta Bank, a bank which exists entirely inworld.

The interview is quite interesting. Beyond discusses what you would expect, the current and future bank offerings and their largest competitor Ginko Financial, there is mention of employment diversity within Second Life, the idea that Second Life-based employment tends to be 100% tele-commuting, the fact that SL is a “social equalizer” as people are judged solely on their “abilities, talent and attitude.”

I decided to go for a stroll and check out Meta Bank (of which I was impressed) and Ginko Financial (less so).

Looks like a bank customer service desk (note, there was a green floating text instructing customers to ring the bell and a banking agent – who was online – would help). The help was there, no problem.
