Dell Inspiron Mini 9 Debuts to Asus EeePC 901 price drop – $500
The long anticipated (wasn’t this supposed to come out in August, folks?) Dell Inspiron Mini 9 debuted today to an Asus EeePC 901 price drop. Both are available for around $500 (more from Dell because of shipping and taxes vs. the EeePC direct-from-Amazon free shipping no taxes).
What is the same
- Atom 1.6ghz processor
- 1gb RAM
- Wifi, Bluetooth
- Headphone, microphone ports
- 1.3mp webcam
- WindowsXP and Ubuntu
- 8.9″ 1024×600 Intel UMA
- VGA out
- Media card reader
- Three USB

What is different
- Asus with linux = 20gb solid state vs. Dell 16gb solid state
- Asus 8.0 x 6.9 x 1.5″ and 2.42 pounds vs. Dell 9.03 x 6.77 x 1.07 and _ starting at_ 2.28 pounds–this is likely the same because starting-at would be for the smaller SSD
- Note that it is possible to get a Dell for $349 with 1/2gb RAM, 4gb SSD, no webcam and no bluetooth

Another Option
- I just noticed the nice and shiny Asus EeePC 1000H, which is a 10.2″ screen and larger form factor, including:
- 80gb HDD
- 10.2″ 1024×600 (same resolution, bigger screen)
- 10.5 x 7.5 x 1.5″ and 3.19 pounds
- around the same $500 pricetag
Other Options
- MSI Wind in 8.9 and 10.2″ models
- Acer Aspire One, with models that start at less than Dell’s entry level
Hmmmm… Decisions, decisions…
