Domain registrar migration from godaddy.com to 101domain.com

Slowdown

The continuing slowdown in godaddy.com website services has now reached a virtual standstill. I am a long-time customer and have used their services long before any of the superbowl commercials and other advertising nonsense. Their services simply worked well and were reasonably priced — the core value of the offering and why they were able to build up their business as quickly as they did.

That is now over.

Failure

For the past several days I have tried to register a few domain names, with several different browsers, on multiple occasions. The slowness is maddening, but even worse are the various error messages or complete time-outs that are happening. I am simply unable to buy from them at this point. Ok, I get the message. It is time to change to a different provider.

New beginnings

I have found one in 101domain.com which is very speedy, reasonably priced ($9.95/domain/year), and without all that nasty spammy advertising and trickery. In addition, management of the domains is super simple. I registered three domains and they very quickly were posted to the root servers using off-site DNS entries and were up and running as fast as Godaddy ever got them running for me.

In addition, they offer a very simple Affiliate program that provides a quick 5% commission on orders. Let’s hope the new relationship with 101Domain is as long and happy as the one with Godaddy, before it soured.

Hi Jeff, I have been a user of http://www.icdsoft.com for many years now. I’m not really sure what differentiates domain providers, but I have found their offering to be great value, and their support assistance to be exceptional. Without fail, they have responded to my requests for assistance very quickly and with appropriate answers. You might like to give them a try sometime. Best wishes, Tony

    Hi Tony,

Thanks for the feedback. I use 101domain.com as a registrar only. It looks like icdsoft.com registers but mainly provides hosting services. One danger of using a single provider as host and registrar is if there are problems with the hosting services, then you have to wait for the company to take action. However, if my host has problems that aren’t getting resolved, I can quickly get a new host, configure settings, and then tell my domain registrar to switch primary nameservers. This gives me flexibility and a greater degree of control. The cost is not much ($10/year) per domain to do things this way.

    Cheers, Jeff
