The Internet in 2020, Pew Report
Rik notes that Pew has released a second future of the Internet report.
Scenario 5 is about virtual reality addition. This is a silly concept (as many respondents have noted), and will become the fodder of luddite television, as the old vs. new media battle continues. Remember the scourge that calculators were to become, crippling our ability to do math? Oh yes, I was a teenager back then. Calculators were banned from classrooms. Now they are required. Hmmmm.
Otherwise, this report is pretty hum-drum. So there are fears about agents out of control, English taking over, low-cost ubiquitous networks… Come on folks, there are fourteen years between now and 2020. Think back to 1992. What sort of predictions were made then for the future of the Internet? Oh yeah, that was a green-screen tool for academics, no future in that back then…
