Web2.0 Video goodies

Yes, everyone knows that video on the web is attracting a lot of attention, especially after Google announced its acquisition of YouTube for $1.65bn. However, there is more on the way (and that has already taken place). In late September, Yahoo acquired Jumpcut. Jumpcut is freakin’ awesome, and everyone should try out the open beta. I also agree with the Jumpcut crew that Yahoo is doing the right thing, in the same vein as their Flickr and del.icio.us acquisitions (even though their earnings preview lost then 11% of their stock price. Maybe Yahoo should reconsider the Facebook deal.

In any case, there are two other video sites coming out (one more of a mixed media site), both are in closed beta, but it is possible to sign up for their coming debuts. First is [Cuts.com], very similar to Jumpcut (and I don’t believe any better). They are trying to get around the whole licensing thing by not dealing with any media, but I think we all know now that the recording industry is going to play ball with these new sites, in search of revenues, rathering than trying to sue them into bankruptcy (which surprisingly does not actually produce any new revenues).

The second site is ScrapBlog. This was blogged today on BabaSucks, after viewing a demo on the Scobble Show. Baba also has gotten access and put up his first ScrapBlog.

Now for giggles, check out the YouTube founders’ announcement of the Google acquisition:

Yikes, these guys got $1.65bn?!
