This is an ongoing collection of Open Source stuff. Some of this I haven't used but have heard about enough to become interested, and therefore want to keep track of it in some way.
Some of this stuff I use daily, and prize highly (some I use daily and prize moderately -- looking at you, Dino).
I will try to keep this up-to-date, or rather provide updates in an ongoing way.
Open Source definition
While software is the major aspect of open source it is not the only place for it. For a definition, it is salutory to start with the Debian free software guidelines, which is a part of the Debian social contract. This is not to say that a given project or product need or need not follow any specific guidelines, though they should certainly in spirit.
There are non-open source projects which are also worthy in signifcant ways. A great example is Obsidian which is closed source, but preserves data in open content formats, and supports a large community creating and using plugins. The software is also free (to use) in various ways, with appropriate licensing restrictions.
