Reaper is the DAW I've decided on based on a combination of functionality and affordability. Reaper is not open source, but it does have a reasonable and affordable license. I'm fine with supporting them, up until enshittification (which isn't 100% guaranteed in any case).

- The main thing is to be able to record, and to bring in sounds / samples and modify and duplicate them.
- I also want to use a keyboard or perhaps several, and also bring in a microphone.
- The idea is to be able to play live, as well as record.
