  • I've been ignoring passkeys that sites keep trying to make me use. After a bit I've now looked into the issue. This is something that both KeepassXC and Keepass2Android will have to support, as those are my keepass/passkey tools (I won't be using Google for thisk, obviously). Turns out KeepassXC has already implemented this and Keepass2Android is working on, so it won't be long.

Systemd kerfuffle

Wow, for people interested in open source the actual politics can elude many, sadly. The idea that submitting a fingerprint is simply worth it to protect others completely misses the entire vast history of exploitation of security and privacy. And adding a birthdate field to systemd is seen as a non-issue and that folks who complain are not understanding the situation. This in fact is the strongest argument ever for ditching systemd as harmful not only to basic Linux/Unix concepts of computing but actual privacy and security. Hmmm, guess I'll be taking MX Linux for a test drive...

Tasks

  • Need to check out LanguageTool plugin for Kmail and others
  • Cut over to Hugo from WordPress
  • Lots of bits and bobs, odds and ends

Media

Reading

  • Orc Eroica is a fantastic series, and volume 6 is the best yet. The premise is sontaku which means assumuptions and demonstrating care for unspoken meanings. This leads to hilarity. Contrary to the title, there is no sex in Orc Eroica though the point is for the main character (an Orc) to get some. Still, he is hampered by various expectations and understandings which collide with those of others, all far from the mark.
  • Long story short had another volume out (in English translation), still not sure what is going on with the plot, but it is a nice slice of life style light novel. Frankly the strange creatures are the most forgetful part.
  • I like villains so I reincarnated as one good first volume, looking forward to the next.
  • The Art of Discarding is the book that inspired Marie Kondo. I feel that this is much less interesting, and the approach isn't focused on sparking joy, though it indeed did its job of inspiration for Marie Kondo.
  • Expeditionary Force: Columbus Day is an interesting book of science fiction, with several follow-up volumes. The first is quite good, funny, and gives one a sci-fi fix.

Watching

  • Animation: Hell Mode, Reincarnated as a Dragon, Golden Kamuy (started the series)
  • TV: Department Q, Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, Small Prophets, Arctic Ascent, Alien Earth -- I don't generally like horror, but this was exceptional

Music

Quite a bit of listening, and making music. I'll discuss more next month.
