Some renovations to the kitchen included a new toaster oven (replacing a 15-year-old beast whose timer stopped turning off the burners after the time was up). I've added a second induction burner (cheaper but definitely less functional and easy to use). Brands let their products go to shit over time. It is sad and also infuriating.
Shoutout to Quod Libet a fantastic (fast, low resource, highly configurable) audio player (multi-platform as well).
Thunar also supports SFTP connections. No need for Filezilla, sorry old friend.
Time to revisit which DNS services to use.

More Tech (drama)

Fosstodon, my favorite current host for Mastodon had a Nazi for a moderator. There was litle evidence for Nazi behavior on Fosstodon, though it was clearly expressed (in action and words) on another platform (Reddit). Due to the Nazi Bar Rule you got to shut this down early and make a point. Sure, the actual Nazi's will blame you for being a Fascist, cancel culture, woke, etc. We just want nice things and those folks are going to trash them, sooner or later. Everyone thinking this is an extreme reaction (to a not-yet-problem) is a naive dipshit, and can't or won't understand history.
This got me to thinking, what Mastodon-like server would be low resource for a small family instance? I've cancelled my support for Fosstodon (via Liberapay), and will be self-hosting (soonish) as I've found a viable project (Gotosocial) which will fit nicely on my already existing server.

For now, I've migrated to Hachyderm.io a friendly (and woke) tech-related instance. Migration is fairly painless, including 4-5 CSV files and the MOVE command which forces subscribers to unsubscribe at the old address and resubscribe at the new address. Mastodon currently cannot import posts (and their discussion threads). But I can get an archive of those posts for posterity.

After 3 weeks of nursing the big boy I've finally succumbed to his same sickness. It isn't pleasant.
