Homemade Scones

This recipe takes about 30 minutes, and is mainly about being organized. It is very useful to have rubber gloves to do the hand kneading of butter into flour, otherwise cleanup is a lot messier.

  • 30 minutes
  • 8-9 scones

  • 200g flour
  • 100g butter
  • 1 tsp baking powder
  • 2 TBSP sugar (plus a little for topping)
  • 2 large eggs
  • Pinch of salt
  • Milk (sometimes a little)
  • Parchment paper

  • Combine sifted flour, baking powder, sugar, and salt
  • Cut butter into small squares
  • Add butter to mixture
  • Hand mix until all butter is distributed throughout the mixture
  • Scramble two eggs
  • Set aside 2-3 tablespoons of egg mixture to use as a glaze
  • Add the eggs and mix
  • If too dry, add some milk to the mixture
  • Place parchment paper on a baking pan
  • Scoop out scone batter onto parchment paper
  • Glaze the scones with the set aside egg mixture
  • Sprinkle sugar on top of the scones
  • Bake for 10-12 minutes, until tops are browning
  • Pull from oven and cool

  • Serve with yoghurt, butter, jam, or clotted cream
