Updated 29-Sep-2026

I've avoided Flatpaks and Snaps for a long time, but now see three uses for Flatpaks (though none yet for Snaps). The main issues have to do with the size of files, security stuff, and simply being not as convenient as using apt repositories. But when some folks can't keep those things stable (or offer them at all), then I've decided to use Flatpaks.
Naw, just kidding. That lasted all of 8 months (29 January to 29 September). I don't care about Roblox on my machine, and the linux Samsung Ear Buds management tool is something I don't really need (I still use my wired headset at the desktop). Everything else basically isn't necessary or even desired. Turns out the flatpak version of browsers won't interoperate with KeePass and so I can't use them for passkeys.
What follows below is merely a snapshot in time, passing like tears in rain.
Flatpaks
Nope, no longer (Jan 29 - Sep 29, 2026)
- Sober (Linux Roblox client)
- For info on installing Sober, see the article on Games on Linux
- Ungoogled Chromium
- Vivaldi Stable
- For info on installing and managing Chromium and Vivaldi, see the Chromium article.
AppImages
I do use AppImages when needed. There are a handful, including:
- balenaEtcher
- MuseScore-Studio
- kindleComicConverter
- Friction
Apt Repositories
- caddy-stable.sources
- debian.sources
- dmo.sources Debian pultimedia (unofficial)
- docker.sources
- syncthing.sources
- vscodium.sources
Snaps
none whatsoever
